I’m very late to publish this article so you will find here interesting news since October. I have chosen to keep news in french from my original selection (available on augmented-reality.fr) because it allows us to discover many “local uses” which are very clever.
So, what will you find below? First, many annonces for AR glasses. It could be strange but it is very clear sign of the maturity of B2B uses, especially in industries for control and remote expertise. If you remember, we saw same thing at the 2018 edition of the CES, just after the “Peak of Inflated Expectations” following ARkit and ARcore annonces. It is a better time now? Yes, because after a year of difficult meeting and travels, many industrial executive know the efficiency or AR for remote expertise and maintenance. By the way, you will also find such examples below.
Another interesting fact, we saw many retail uses of AR since 6 months. Again, the pandemic situation is the obvious cause. It’s difficult to convince people to go in shop (when they can do that) and, if you’re a retailer it’s also difficult to fight against “pure internet players”. It’s why big brands and small shops explores more interactive experiences for customers, and AR. It’s a pity to see that other sectors, like culture, tourism or even food, are today globally very shy. Some big players has made experiments and could be the big winners of 2021.
Anyway, let’s go to 2021, it’s almost time! I wish you the best possible end of the year festivities. Take a flute of Champagne and let’s see you next year.
