Ultimately, this month of July will not be as calm as one might have thought in the augmented reality sector. Firstly, it seems that Samsung is confirming its desire to get closer to Google to create a new XR ecosystem with, perhaps, Magic Leap which would focus on software. That’s a lot of guesswork, but everything should be clearer in Q4. At the same time, Meta strengthens its position in the AR glasses market by acquiring a stake in EssilorLuxottica and announcing its new (experimental) model for 2024. This is not the only announcement in the field of glasses since Solos and Rokid are launching their new models.
You will also find in our monitoring several interventions (in particular from AWE 2024) which seem to confirm that AR glasses are truly on the verge of revolutionizing the sector. Is this the announced end of mixed reality headsets? Probably not, because the technical difficulties to overcome are not simple!
However, this is the type of device that consumers are asking for according to a study by Ericsson’s ConsumerLab, and they are even ready to pay for it! Still, doing hardware isn’t easy, as Magic Leap and Sightful’s decisions to pivot to software show.
On the software side, we saw the appearance of the first applications dedicated to the Olympic Games and, of course, we invite you to discover uses in museums.
See you in a month!
