The number of announcements in the AR field is traditionally lower in August, and this year is no different. Everyone is expecting announcements at the upcoming Meta Connect 2025 in September, and it’s possible that Apple, Google, or Samsung will take advantage of the momentum to launch some new products in the field. We’re betting that the last quarter will be very active! August was at least a good month for reflection, as you’ll find summary articles on several topics in our monitoring, such as health and XR, investment in the sector, the future of technologies for producing light for AR glasses, and the state of the art standards. So many topics to know to prepare for a successful year (in an uncertain landscape).

On the business side, there’s no revolution, but there are some confirmations, such as Sony’s arrival in the AR alliance. This is a way to firmly establish its interest in XR hardware. Also note Goertek’s significant investment in micro-LED manufacturer Plessey Semiconductors. This $100 million investment shows how much the Chinese company believes in the eyewear market and once again confirms the importance of this country’s companies in the hardware production sector. There’s also been a small change at the top of Disney’s management with the arrival of Erin Teague, who has extensive experience in XR applications. We may see a real expansion of Disney’s offerings in this sector in 2026 (with Apple?)

In terms of hardware and software, HTC surprised the community by announcing its pair of connected glasses, while Pico was expected. Questions are being asked about the public’s ability to adopt Meta’s future Hypernova, which could arrive at Meta Connect. Is the public ready to use a dedicated bracelet? Moreover, is the general public ready for glasses? A Washington Post journalist’s one-month test is more than mixed. This does not prevent the development of professional uses, as shown by the arrival of the LX1 model from Vuzix, designed specifically for logistics. We also saw the arrival of version 20.1 of DaVinci Resolve by Blackmagic, which now supports « Apple Immersive Video. »

If we look at uses, the defense sector is still very active, but leisure is in the spotlight this summer. PortAventura, for example, is playing the AR card for its attractions, and several artists have exhibited their « augmented » works. Another original idea: researchers from Glasgow and Abertay are proposing to use AR to give « life » to animal robots or stuffed animals. Surprising, isn’t it? Closer to our everyday tools, Microsoft is announcing the natural integration of immersive meetings into Teams thanks to technology inherited from Mesh. We can’t say that the solutions that have attempted to offer immersive meetings in 2D tools and without specific uses have been very successful, but maybe this time it will work!

See you in a month!
